Peterson Family Pictures

On Brian's parents' 50th Anniversary, we took some family pictures.  My friend Nicole did the pictures and she did a great job.  Not everyone could be here but we did get the majority of us.  It was pretty fun.
Here are just a few of my favorite shots:

Thanks Nicole!

32nd Week of Pictures - Mom and Dad's Room

The master bedroom in our house is one of the reasons I fell in love with this home.  Let me give you a picture of how our room in our old house... Our bed, dresser, night stand, and hope chest barely fit in the room and you still had to turn sideways to walk around and out the door.  It got worse when you added a cradle for a baby.  It was pretty tiny.  So when we walked in this master bedroom for our first look, I was in awe at how big it was.  Bonus was it had a master bath with shower and a walk-in closet.  I loved this bedroom.  Not only can we fit all our bedroom stuff, we added a desk and my big round chair.  We still have plenty of room to do stuff.  I am so happy with my bedroom.  Now if I can just decide on a color scheme and really go to town decorating.  I am looking at red, black, and white (funny thing because those were both Brian and my high school colors!).

My bedroom is my retreat place.  I am so happy when kids are in bed and I can spend a few hours doing whatever in my room.  I love my bedroom.
Happy mommy!

31st Week of Pictures - Favorite Meal/Food

I am a foodie.  I love food.  I love to try new foods and I savor my old traditional foods.  Of course I have many meals that are my favorite so I decided to go with my favorite foods.  First off I love chips.  I have always loved chips since I can remember.  I seriously can finish a whole bag in 1 sitting.  When I am watching what I am eating, this is the number 1 thing that I have to watch.  I either have a tiny amount or none at all.  My weakness... chips.

I love stuff that comes from the garden.  One of my absolute favorites is corn.  We are just getting some great ears of corn coming out of our garden and I am super excited.  But if I don't have my own corn, I love Tremonton corn.  I love when it is in season because we stock up on it.  My favorite thing to do is freeze some ears so we can have corn on the cob in those cold winter months.  My kids feel the same way about corn.  They love it slathered with butter.  I seriously think Jacob could eat a whole meal of corn on the cob.

My last picture is homemade cookies.  They are a staple at my house.  Everyone loves their cookies.  I am always looking for a good recipe because we get tired of the same old cookies.  Awhile ago my mom gave me a peanut butter cookie recipe that is delicious.  Fat, moist yummy cookies.  Yes another watch for my diet.
Unfortunately I can't get my beautiful picture of my homemade peanut butter cookies to load.  I will have to try another day.
Enjoy eating!

My mom's 60th birthday

Happy Birthday Mom!  We love you!

30th Week of Pictures - Red, White, and Blue

Red, White, and & Blue is the theme this week.  Normally I would be showing pictures of the July 24th parade and our fireworks but we had a different version of red, white, and blue this week.

Tuesday afternoon the boys were practicing their golf swings with daddy on the watch.  After they finished that, daddy told them to put the clubs away and came in the house.  His mom called and he was upstairs talking to her.  I was downstairs with Kimberly.  I heard a noise outside and instantly got this really sick feeling inside and knew I needed to go upstairs and check on the boys.  At this time, Brian didn't see anything but also heard something.  Then he heard Matthew asking Jacob if he was ok and then Matthew started screaming that there was blood.  Brian ran out to get Jacob.  I came upstairs to see Brian coming in with Jacob in his arms.  Blood was just gushing out of Jacob's head and running down his cheek.  That would be my red.

I was ready to pass out.  I couldn't believe my baby had blood everywhere.  I then needed to know what happened.  Well Matthew was running around outside upset at what happened.  I got him in the house, gave him a good spanking and then found out that he decided to practice hitting the baseball and didn't look to see if anything was around.  Oh boy that made my heart sink.  I could see Matthew was really upset. We already had a rule at our house that you don't play with the golf clubs without an adult.  I guess we now have to have the same rule for baseball bats.

I then could hear Jacob upset and fighting daddy so I knew I was going to have to suck up my fear and deal with Jacob.  I went in and tried to clean him up so we could see what we were dealing with.  But Jacob would not let anyone of us get near his head.  I was able to clean up a little blood on his hands, face, and legs but I could not touch his head.  From what I could tell with all the blood, he had a good cut and possible indention.  I knew we had to go to the hospital and I also knew I couldn't send Brian alone.  With some great help from a visiting teacher, Brian and I were able to head to the doctor within a few minutes.  White would be the color I turned when I saw all the blood and the fact that Jacob was wearing a white shirt, now stained with blood.  (We threw the shirt right in the garbage.)

We decided the Instacare would be closer and faster so we went there.  Unfortunately Jacob wouldn't let us cover his head so he looked pretty gruesome.  It was pretty busy but they took us right in.  Now Jacob is a cute boy and the nurses were gushing over him.  He was loving all the attention.  He got a sucker, a squirt gun (syringe), a sticker, and a movie all so they could clean his wound.  He wanted me to hold him and that was good because I couldn't really see how bad things were.  When the nurses cleaned it mostly up, they gave us good news.  The cut looked minor and very clean.  The dr came in and agreed with the nurses that it was a minor cut and Jacob was going to be ok.  The cut was big enough for some glue and Jacob took that great.  The dr was so happy with him so she gave him a popsicle.  Jacob had a big smile leaving the hospital.  I was just grateful it was so minor.  This could have been extremely serious.  After the glue, Jacob's wound looked blue... hence the Blue.
Here is the wound.

Here is my happy boy after all the crazy.

The only downfall from all this was Jacob is not allowed under water for a week.  After a couple of days, Jacob let us touch his owie.  He still loves his brother and brother, I think, has learned a valuable lesson.

We did get to enjoy a parade and fireworks on the 24th.  Here are some pictures:
He finally liked sparklers.

He was acting scared about sparklers.

Having fun for a minute.

I will tell ya.... I was pretty ill after all this.  I couldn't get that image of Jacob and blood out of my mind and it was making me sick to my stomach.  The worse thing... all these ladies kept telling me this is just the start.  I really hope we don't have anything much more serious than this.  I don't know if my heart can handle it.

Yard Sales

This past Saturday I had a first.  My very first Yard Sale.  Now I would consider myself a yard sale pro.  Pretty much every year growing up, my mom and family members would have a yard sale.  We (my cousin and I) would sale cookies and lemonade or kool aid and get bored and go play.  But we were around them enough to know what to do.

So I decided it was my time to tackle a Yard Sale.  I had enough stuff.  For 10 years Brian and I have been collecting or hoarding all our stuff.  We moved every bit of it last fall and just a few weeks ago finally got thru the last of the boxes.  We also made the big decision to not have anymore kids so we didn't need to keep anything.

Talk about a lot of work.  And here I thought we were pretty prepared... but I was proved wrong.  I knew people come early to Yard Sales.  I figured if I put 8 a.m. on the annoucement, I would see people around 7 a.m.  I was shocked when people started showing up before 7.  I felt a little bad because I didn't have everything out but at the same time I just wanted to tell people too bad... you are early.  Then before we really could get everything out and organized, we had a swarm of people.  I had to finally just sit at the table and take money.

We did well.  I was very impressed how much we sold.  Yes we still had to take a truck load to the DI but we really did sell a lot.  Made more money than I expected.  Had a lot of fun visiting with neighbors and meeting new people.  My hubby says this is my thing because I love people.

Did I learn anything for my next one?  Absolutely!  Be ready at least an hour earlier than I planned.  Maybe not have as many clothes.  Need more manly items (I had a few men tell me to send the hubby to the store and then raid his tools and gun cabinet).  Maybe not have one in July (too hot).

When is the next one you ask?  When we get thru another phase of life.  Hopefully the next one will contain more toys.  So we are looking at a few years from now.
Kudos to those people that do this every year or even every week.

29th Week in Pictures - Water Fun

Water Fun is the theme for this week.  We sure have been enjoying any water fun we can get with this heat.  We are able to put our pool up and keep it up this year.  That is a lot of fun for the kids.  Every afternoon they are begging to jump in the pool.  They aren't the only ones though.  Brian and I have jumped in the pool a few times too due to the heat.

Matthew falling into the pool.

Kimmy posing.

I just thought this looked pretty in the pool.
You may be wondering where a picture of my cute Jacob is in the water... well he was out by the time I got the camera.  He is still learning to like the pool.  Hopefully next year he can take swimming lessons and start loving the water like his siblings.

Happy summer to all!

28th Week of Pictures - Favorite Place in Town

I love Millville.  I have many favorite places in the town I live to venture.  But if we have to be honest, my absolute favorite place in town would have to be my house.  I love my house.  I love almost everything about my house (and what I don't like, will get changed.)  So I had to seriously think about my favorite place in my house.  It would have to be my hammock.  I love my hammock.  It is so relaxing and a great place to unwind.  My only downfall is I usually end up with a few kids with me.

I do hope you have a favorite place for you to relax and unwind.

50th Wedding Anniversary

Brian's parents celebrated 50 years of marriage together on July 8th.  We got the family together for professional family pictures (that have never been done) and we had a dinner back at our house.  I am pretty sure Margo and Verl enjoyed every minute of it because their family was all together.  It was a bit crazy putting this on but it turned out great.  Thanks to a lot of help from my sister-in-law Melanie.

Happy 50th Margo and Verl.  You guys are a great example to the rest of us.  We love you!

Bear Lake Fun

We took some time out of our busy cleaning getting ready for Brian's parents Anniversary party at our house to enjoy the warm weather and water.  The kids loved Bear Lake.  The only bad part was we could only find a rocky beach to plant our behinds.  So the rocks were a little rough but we still enjoyed and relaxed.

We sure do hope to get back there soon this summer.

4th of July Fun

4th of July is always a fun day.  We spend the day in my hometown of Soda Springs. The day starts with a parade.  The start of the parade is my dad and the other veterens carrying the flags.  What a great honor seeing my father in uniform marching.  I am so proud of him.  Then the rest of the parade consists of hometown businesses and events.  Granted my kids could care less but they throw loads of candy and we score big time at this parade.  We also get to see lots of family so that is fun.

After the parade, we walk around the park and visit with other old Soda people that come back for the celebration.  Fun but a little bit boring for my kids.  So then we head to my parents for a fun bbq and this year was a fun water fight.  My poor mom cannot move the next day with all the craziness we had but it sure was fun.  Love spending time with my folks.

This is our family (grandmas, aunts, cousins, etc.)

My dad!

The Vets!

Kimmy in action grabbing candy.

Jacob trying to enjoy the parade.  Too many noise fire trucks though.  But the candy is awesome!
We love the 4th of July!

27th Week of Pictures - Fireworks

This week's theme is firework.  Unfortunately fireworks are not popular at my house.  My children are a bit scared of fireworks and do not like loud ones.  We broke out the sparklers and the pop-its and that was our extent on fireworks.  Even with just those minor fireworks, I still had children freaking out.  One day they might enjoy doing fireworks.
The neat thing was from our house, we could watch a lot of firework shows from the neighboring town of Nibley.  My children had many oohs and aahs behind the glass in the living room.  It was a beautiful sight.

26th week of pictures - Something Yellow

Something yellow was the theme for this week.  We had this theme awhile back so I was trying to decide what I would take a picture of that wasn't the same as before.  Then a couple days ago, this beautiful flower opened up and I knew I had to capture it.

A little story about these flowers.  The first of May comes and our new house was in need of some flowers or plants.  Unfortunately money was tight and we were postive we couldn't swing some flowers.  Luckily a nice guy my husband works with tells my hubby how his yard could use some thinning of his flowers.  So one day my hubby takes a bunch of buckets and gathers up a variety of flowers.  I was delighted.  What is better than free right!  Now Brian was all worried that none of these flowers would live but most of them have and we have some neat flowers, that will spread and give us more beauty.

So happy to have some flowers in my yard... and it just will keep getting better and better with each year.  Now we just have to save money for some trees in the front yard for some much needed shade on our house!

Supermoon

I just happened to look out back during the "supermoon" days and this is what I saw.  Well not exactly.  What I saw was this gigantic moon.  When I took the picture, it didn't look quite as gigantic.  Oh well... still pretty cool.

25th week of pictures - Father

This week's theme was Father in honor of Father's Day.  I have had some great fathers in my life:  #1 my dad, my grandfathers, uncles, friends' dad, etc.  But today I want to focus on the main father in my life now... my husband.

Brian is an amazing dad.  He is the type of dad that is involved in his kids' lives 100%.  It all started while they were in my tummy and he was reading to them (he thought it was odd but he still did it).  Then came diapers.  Yes Brian has changed his fair share of diapers.  He was even the type of father that got up in the night during night time feedings to change a diaper and rock a baby to sleep if needed.  He is always playing with the kids, whether it is sports outside, toys inside, even babies and house with his daughter.  I couldn't have asked for a more amazing dad for my kids.
Thank you dear for being a great father for our kids.  I love you.
Train building skills a must in our dad!

Yes Jacob thought this was odd, just like Brian.  haha

Swimming Lessons

Another year of swimming lessons is behind us and once again the children did their best.  We go into swimming lessons hoping that our children improve just a little bit by the end.  Once again our children didn't disappoint.  I am personally just grateful they stayed in the pool (there were some mommies with children that wouldn't get into the pool).

This is how Jacob watches swimming lessons.

Next year will be his turn.

Matthew back floating.
Matthew is an awesome swimmer.  He has no fear of the water.  When he floats, he just floats like a dead fish.  He thinks it is funny we call him that.  I am so proud of his swimming ability.  I can't wait to see what the future holds with this kid and swimming.  (I wouldn't be surprised if he passes up his sister one day).
Matthew front floating.

And his favorite part, jumping in!

Kimberly side swimming.
Kimberly did really well this year in swimming lessons.  Let me first explain something about Kimmy.  Until she was 2 years old, she had a fear of water.  Not sure why but she hated water, especially baths.  Finally she realized nothing bad would happen to her and started liking the water.  But because of her fear, I didn't put her into swimming lessons too early.  Once I got her in them, she loved it.  She still has a bit of a fear and it shows in some of her swims but she is trying and that is what matters to me.  If her instructor wants her to try something, she does and she practices until she knows she is doing it correctly.  Because of her fear, she is a bit slow in learning.  That is okay with me because she still loves to swim.
Side swimming on the other side.

Front stroke.
I am super proud of my two fishes.  Can't wait to practice what we learned in the pool this summer!  Thanks Sports Academy!

24th week of pictures - Backyard

This week's theme is backyard.  I LOVE MY BACKYARD! And it is just going to get better with each year we live here.  The backyard at this house is one of the reasons we bought this house.  It is big, spacious, and many things to be done to.

This is from our grove of trees.  This backyard had a grove of plum and maple trees that haven't been touched in years.  Some of the trees were diseased and some just didn't have any room to grow.  That was Brian's first project.. thin out the grove.  His second project was to put in a fire pit.  This is the view from that fire pit.  When in the grove, you feel like you are up in the mountains at a campfire.  Then you look out and see that you are in your home.  Lovely thought.

This is our garden.  We tried gardening at our old house but we could only have a tiny garden.  So we were so happy to have a lot of room to build our garden.

This is the view from our south corner of our backyard.  See how big.

This is our deck.  As you can see, it is on the right side of house in the afternoon, all shady.

This is the view from our deck.

And of course my children love this backyard.
So happy about my backyard and still so many more improvements to come.  Happy Happy Happy.

23rd week of pictures - End of the School Year

End of the school year for us means last day of school pictures.

Matthew on his Graduation Day!

Kimberly with her best friend Katie!

But for our family, end of school means swimming lessons start.  I feel that having swimming lessons start the week after school ends is the best.  My kids are still in a structured mood from being in school so they don't complain about having to do the lessons in the morning.  Plus we get them out of the way and then we can plan fun things for the rest of the summer.

Here is Matthew with his teacher Hannah.  He learned that her name can be spelled forwards or backwards and it is the same.  haha.  I really will have to get a picture of him with his goggles facing me.  He looks like a little alien boy.

Here is Kimmy and her teacher Rylan.  She is the cutie that looks like she is drowning.  haha.  Just like my Kimmy to make a new friend on her first day at swimming... the little girl next to her in the picture.
Summer is finally here and we have many fun things to look forward to.  Bring out the sunscreen and swimming pools!
