Matthew's ER experience
I thought we would visit the ER with Matthew within his first couple of years because he was a wild boy. When that didn't happen, I stopped worrying. Sure enough, it finally happened. At 3 1/2 years old, Matthew had to visit the ER with what look liked stitches were in his future.
Saturday night after prayers, he ran to the bathroom to potty before bed. Being his usual silly self, he decided to take his footie pjs completely off to potty. After flushing the toilet, he rushed over to the stool to wash his hands and slipped off the stool and slammed his chin on the counter. I heard this big crash but was feeding Jacob so I couldn't move. Brian ran in there and was very quiet after that. I heard Kimberly go in to see what happened and she went quiet too. I was totally wondering what happened when Brian came out with a naked Matthew. He brought him over to me and all I could see was blood on his chin. All Brian said was, "I think I need to take him." I knew it was serious for Brian to want to take him to the hospital.
Now I always thought I would be that mom that could handle anything, even blood. I have always been squimish when it came to blood but I figured with my children, I would be strong. Boy was I wrong. Brian showed me the gash on Matthew's chin and I felt faint. So grateful Brian was home when this happened.
Before they could run to the hospital, Matthew had to have clothes on. While he was getting dressed and Brian was throwing some clothes on too, I was telling Matthew stories and had him laughing. That made me feel better knowing he was in good spirits going to the hospital.
They were only at the hospital a couple hrs and Matthew had a good time. Apparently the drs and nurses loved him cause he didn't cry or throw any fits. He was a great patient and it paid off. He got to watch a movie, have 2 popcicles, and about 9 stickers to take home. It was a great time for him. The only thing he didn't like was the hospital bed. When I was having Jacob in hospital, Matthew would not come on my bed. He didn't like it at all. Brian said he told him he was not going to sleep in that bed. haha.
No stitches, only glue and a happy kid. I am sure it is the start of all this boy fun. UGH!
